The Magic Lake

There was a poor person called Jhon. He lived with his wife and two children.

So Jhon got a job cutting wood and selling them to people. One day when he was goinog home after cutting wood he slid on a big wet rock and fell down into a lake. It was the first time that he saw this lake.  He did not know it was magic lake. In his fall, all his wood fell into the lake.

Oh no!”, said Jhon. “Now my boss will punish me”.

In the lake was a magic fish. That fish said: “Why are you crying”.

Surprised, Jhon asked: “Are you a talking fish?”

“Yes”, replied the fish. “I saw your wood fall into the lake”.

“Yes, and now my boss will punish me that” said Jhon sadly.

“Don't worry”, said the talking fish. “I will give you some more wood”.

With that, the talking fish went underwater and Jhon thought that she was gone and he would not get back wood. But to his pleasant surprise, suddenly a piece of wood jumped out of the lake and fell next where he was standing, and then another, and another and another, making a big pile - even bigger than what he had cut that day! Jhon was so happy! He thought about how pleased his boss would be with him.

“Thank you very much”, Jhon said to the talking fish. “You very kind. My boss will be very pleased with me for bringing an even bigger pile of wood than I have ever brought in a single day”

“You are welcome Jhon”, said the fish. “You are a kind and nice person Jhon”.

Jhon and his boss went to sell the wood and he got earned some extra money to buy food for his family. He kept on doing that everyday. But he did not take the path to the magic lake because he did not want to slip and fall again. He sold more wood and he got more money. He and his family were not poor anymore.

In the same village lived a mean person called Zach. Zach had been watching Jhon and he had seen the magic trick that the talking fish had done. “If the fish can multiply something that falls into the lake, perhaps it can multiply my two pieces of gold into many pieces, and I will be richer than I have ever been!”, Zach said to himself.

So Zach took his two pieces of gold and of he went to the magic lake. When he was at the edge of the lake, he pretended to fall down and he slipped his two gold coins into the water.

“Oh my precious gold!”, cried Zach.

Just as he hoped, the talking fish appeared and asked Zach: “Why are you crying?”

“It’s my two pieces of gold. They fell into the lake” said Jhon, pretending to cry. “Those two pieces were all my savings. Now I have nothing. Please help me fish. Please help me get the coins back”.

The talking fish knew that Zach was a mean person and that he was not telling the truth. “He is lying to me”, she said to herself. She thought for a moment and then said to Jhon: “Don't worry I will give you more gold”. She went underwater and suddenly a shiny coin jumped out of the lake and fell on Zach’s feet. “It’s working”, he thought to himself. “I have tricked the fish and I am about to get a sack load of gold coins!”.

Zach waited for another coin to jump out of the lake. Nothing happened. He waited some more, then some more, and still there no more coins. He even called out to the the talking fish but she was gone.  He picked up the single coin that lay at his feet and looking at it closely, he saw that it was a fake gold coin.

It was then that Zach realised that the talking lake and the fish had known about his trickery. Not only was he not going to get the many pieces of gold that he was wishing for had had lost the two pieces that he had.

“Oh no, what have I done!”, he cried out in regret.

Because of Zach’s lie and trickery and because he was mean, no one would give him a job and his family left him.

Never lie.
